Hacking Motherhood

Welcome to my blog! I'm Tova, a Canadian mom of 2 living children (see my memorial blog for my loss story)

At the time that I'm posting this, Elliot is 6 and Clara is 4.

Most of my great parenting hacks are cobbled together with tape and glue, learned from wise friends, adapted from "methods", remembered from my childhood, and made up on the spot.

The systems of running a household dovetail nicely with my actual work background of training and project management and organization. At work this is a highly valued skill, where you are paid real money and invited to meetings, where people almost never pick their nose, and generally follow your plans.

In a typical heterosexual family, this project management is almost invisible; has no perceived value, and is generally dismissed by western society as a whole, despite being critical for the family structure, and is how millions of workers all over the world are able to dedicate their time and overtime to working, without demanding a healthy work-life balance.

My goal with this blog is to share my "project management" style household management. I'll share hacks that I have accumulated, and generally my feelings of impostor syndrome and being a hack, as I'm now too home focused to care only about my career, and deeply dissatisfied with the housekeeping aspects of being a stay at home mother.

I'm not in this alone, I'm married to my high school sweetheart. Our relationship is nearly 18 years old, and we celebrated our 10th anniversary in quarantine this year.

One of the secrets to our success is that I am strategic, he is tactical. I make the plans, he executes. I make a 5 year plan, he makes sure we eat dinner. I apply for paperwork for an international move, he puts our things into labeled boxes, almost none of which contain assorted pens and change.

So welcome to my corner of parenting, house-holding, and hacking here on the internet!

Xoxo
Tova
